Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales

Pirates of the Caribbean was another installment of the series, I found it to be entertaining as it follow Jack Sparrow and his antics evading the colonials.

Death Note

Death Note was a very unique thriller with a plot full of dramatic choices for the young man who is bestowed with the book that holds the power to kill anyone who's name is written in the book.Although far from perfect the story is quite gripping and the idea is really solid, this makes for a decent story line and interesting characters.

The Belko Experiment

In a twisted social experiment, eighty Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogotá, Colombia, and ordered by an unknown voice coming from the company's intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.

This was a very good Psychological thriller with an evolving cast and a twisted tale at the center of a roller coaster ride of dramatic scenes following the victims of a thought provoking experiment where the everyday office is transformed into a cage match like game of survival and battle of ethics.

ALIEN - Covenant

Alien covenant was a brilliant addition to the series, the fantastic sci-fi thriller and space adventure really was as fantastic as it's predecessor. As a big fan of the series, this is a must watch for anyone who likes a true space thriller with just the right amount of scary aliens.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast was like a live musical with stunning wardrobe and amazing sets, Bill Condon really made a marvelous work of art here. The retake of the classic child hood story of Belle, her love of books and the towns distaste of her, the beast and his castle of magical ornaments. This was a very stunning and intricate take on an old tale.

Ghost in the Shell

Ghost in the Shell was a beautiful concept and was executed brilliantly, as a friend to many Hollywood celebrities, I really enjoyed this sci-fi brilliance and the stunning visuals and combat stunts. This movie truly made me happy. Scarlett is a stunning person, actress and model and she plays this role spectacularly. In typical sci-fi fashion there are some objectifying shots of women which are fortunately balanced with equally brilliant staging, lighting and choreography.

A cure for Wellness

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps, but soon suspects that the spa's treatments are not what they seem

This film was a good tale about some very crazy treatments going on in a so called "wellness center" with an equally crazy doctor "treating" people. The spa really did look like an idyllic resort with a deeper darker secret hidden beneath and that's exactly what it turned out to be.

Life

Life was a thrilling tale of an ISS experiment gone totally wrong with a very "alien" vibe to the film, it really proved to be quite a strong story of the dangers and mystery of both space and LIFE as we know it. With a reasonable cast and some good moments from Ryan Reynolds the film was dramatic and pulling while also quite interesting to watch, Moments of spectacular VFX really helped LIFE shine.It was overall though quite a normal tale of sci-fi space disaster.

Kong: Skull Island

Kong Skull island is a beautiful work of modern VFX madness with beautiful super model cast and I'll tell you what, some spectacular technical shots and lighting to boot. The typical monster battle and awesome action sequences really make this another great King Kong story. With some notable actors and icons like Samuel L. Jackson stealing the show, the film really proves to be a stunning piece of cinematic beauty that will no doubt go down in history with it's predecessors.

Logan

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Logan was a very good tale of Wolverine and Laura's struggle to work together and use their powers to combat the enemy chasing them down. With some interesting new mutants coming to save the day the story and action was great like many marvel movies before it.

Rings

Rings was the sequel to the Ring, I found it much harder to get into than the prequel and not near as thrilling to watch, perhaps it was a little more story driven than the last movie. Still a good watch if you were a fan of the first movie.Maybe better if you can watch the two together.

The Great Wall

The Great wall was a very fantastical tale of a nation with a truly rich history, although at times it felt like there was something deeper to the story it was very much a typical action adventure Hollywood film with a touch of Visual effects beauty.

T2 Trainspotting

Trainspotting 2 was a brilliant sequeleven surpassing the first in quality and probably budget too. The stellar cast and gritty backstreet london underground theme really pushes the boundaries on right and wrong and the true horrors of drugs, dealers and the rough crime life that so often surrounds it.

Silence (2016)

Silence was a tale of Japans fight against the invasion of Christianity and the persecution of Christians in Empirical Japan.The Pace was slow, the story was fairly boring although quite historically interesting.  Andrew Garfield was redeeming in his role as a christian missionary hiding in small town Japan.

50 Shades Darker

50 Shades Darker was a sexy story of two lovers intertwined, Christian Gray and his kept partner anna really explore the deeper sides of peoples lust and desire for taboo and risque sex. The story centres around their love life and a seemingly endless wish to always have more. The Erotic and sultry side doesn't detract from what is otherwise a tale of the hardships many go to to satisfy or please their partner and the lengths some will go to do this.

Gold

Kenny Wells, a prospector desperate for a lucky break, teams up with a similarly eager geologist and sets off on a journey to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia.

Matthew McConaughey really puts on a good performance here, the beauty of Indonesia and the grit and crime of the Gold industry is really told spectacularly here with a story of greed and golds drawn out to make for a solid gold experience. Although a little typical as a entrepreneurial tale this film still proves to be worth watching.

Patriots Day

Patriots Day was a good disaster film with a strong pro police message with a heart breaking story at the centre. Mark Wahlberg does a fine job portraying the struggles of the Boston PD and the many people they are tasked with keeping safe.

Split

Three girls are kidnapped by a man with a diagnosed 23 distinct personalities, and must try and escape before the apparent emergence of a frightful new 24th.

Split was an interesting exploration of the human mind lead by JamesMcAvoy this film really explores the inner psych of someone with a range of sometimes concerning personalities.
At times thrilling but overall a strange story of a man with issues this proved to be quite fun for a movie supposed to be a thriller.

Live By Night

Live by Night is a real Mobster Masterpiece,Ben Afflick and a stellar cast make for a brilliant tale of one mans effort to even the score. this movie really was a great story of  right and wrong and justice. It follows Joe Coughlin and his competing gang the Ku Klux Klan set in Boston Massachusetts.

Ballerina (Leap!) 2016

Ballerina was an excellent animated feature with wonderful animation and a very moving story of chasing dreams and hardship. It was beautiful both visually and also a moving tale although a little cliche underdog. As a 3D artist I was impressed by the quality as it came from a relatively unknown studio.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

XXX was a new IP once upon a time, this time was no different, new stunts, new talent, new action sequences and an old hollywood action great. Vin Diesel really has made his own personal brand and a mark in hollywood history but like many in the movie madness business goes relatively unnoticed.

I really enjoyed this for what it was, even the cheesy moments and some poor VFX didn't take away from the eXXXperience.

Assasins Creed

For me this was a very cliche action movie with a few good moments based off of a much more in depth game. The style was well accomplished but overall I felt the story and sense of the moment was often lost.

Collateral Beauty

He's a nice guy, I like his movies, not many people read this.
He's a super good friend and person, sits with me, talks about the movie and life, death and time.

The Edge of Seventeen

A great story about the troubles of puberty and the struggles of life growing up as a teenager, Halee Steinfield was outstanding in her portrayal of a self absorbed disgruntled teen. Woody Harrelson was also great as a school councilor. The Edge of seventeen really proved to be a beautifully shot story of a young woman's dramatic life growing up.

Passengers

Passengers was a little bit castaway and a little bit of space adventure all wrapped into one, it follows the story of Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) aboard an spaceship destined for earth two. Jim Preston wakes up early from hibernation to find out he has woken up 90 years too early, waking up his companion Aurora is a tough choice to make, knowing she too will be subjected to his fate of being the few passengers awake among a sleeping cargo. A great twist on a very typical Sci-Fi tale.

Moana

Moana was a really amazing visually stunning movie, the technology and artistry that goes on at Disney is really world class, much like it's Japanese counter-parts. The jokes and story were really fantastic. This was well worth watching.
